Coldplay v Joe Satriani

Did Coldplay copy bits of Joe Satriani's "If I could fly" in composing "When I ruled the World".

Listen, compare the two pieces below and you be the judge. Joe Has filed a lawsuit against Coldplay for Copying large tracts of his original work "If I could fly".

Cold Play: When I ruled the World

I love this song by Cold Play, an English band that doesn't follow the crowd. This song has brought them from alternative music to mainstream pop. It is so bright and inspiring and explains how I felt in my youth, invincible, all knowing and the centre of the Universe. How things change as I matured! Have a listen. It will uplift you. This song was written in 2008. Then listen to Joe Satriani's "If I could Fly below and see if you think that Joe has a good reason to claim he has been ripped off.

Joe Satriani: If I Could Fly.

This was written in 2004. Joe says he got ripped off by Coldplay. Coldplay says that any similarity is purely coincidental. What do you feel?

I could here a bar or two that was mostly similar, and that was it, out of six minutes of music.

But to me the chorus of "when I ruled the World" is the piece that makes this tune and its that's no way part of Joe's work. I once heard that there are only eight notes, so being able to write anything these days that does not cross over someone else's work is a pretty hard ask. But I am not a musician or a lawyer. Joe may well have a leg to stand on here.

On the other-hand if Joe does get up on this I'm buying a guitar and going to be putting my tunes on Youtube and waiting for someone who makes it big with my
"original work" so I can sue 'em.
