My Work History:

If you know me from any of these work areas I would like you to reconnect me. Please get in touch here!

  1. 1963-1966. The Chef's Pantry, Liverpool Road, Near Eccles, Lancashire.
    1. My parents owned this cafe and I would help out part time.
    2. I have a lot of fond memories.
  2. 1966. John Martins Department Store, Rundle Street [Mall] Adelaide South Australia.
    1. I started in the paint department at 16, and knew the guy who worked in the basement delivery section who worked his way up to general manager.
    2. I loved this job and the atmosphere of the place, and all the staff I worked with.
  3. 1967-1972. Electricity Trust of South Australia. [ETSA]
    1. 1967 Apprentice training school.
      1. Culture shock when I started. Then I met Wendy on the bus home and everything looked so good.
      2. Got into trouble when I went on a lunchtime job ride with some mates. The driver did a U turn and cleaned up a scooter rider. I still remember seeing the scooter rider flying head first over the bonnet of the car.
    2. 1968 Marleston substation Switch gear fabrication.
      1. Got into trouble twice and got a very bad report in my six month stint and was told I would never be invited back.
        1. First the panty hose [yes that right] was launched in Myers and models were to parade in the shop front window at lunchtime. We all crammed into a mate's "S" or "R" type Valiant to go for a perve, and we got stuck in the traffic chaos and got back to work late.
        2. In those days you could drive up Rundle Street, before it became a mall.
        3. The second time we went out with "Thompson in his ford Prefect.
        4. He had bought a police cap from the Trim's surplus store, and then affixed a checkered cloth to the band to make it look like a real police cap.
        5. Then we would have turns at putting the hat on when speeding drivers tried to overtake us. It was a riot till we tried it on an off duty police officer one lunchtime.
        6. He got our number and we were visited by the CIB at work.
        7. Our managers could not see the funny side of it.
    3. 1968 Mile End, Meter installation and change over.
      1. Three things happened here.
        1. I had a bad motor accident and never returned to this job.
        2. A fellow first year apprentice who was a racing cyclist and was struck down on the road coming to work one day, and died from his injuries.
        3. Another mate stole a station wagon from ETSA and striped the motor. He was caught and convicted. His dad went to jail, and he was sacked.
    4. 1969-1972. Mile End Workshop. I settled into this varied work, but felt I needed to do more if I was to achieve my ambition of being a technical sales engineer. So I did the unthinkable and resigned from ETSA to go on a "working Holiday" in the UK.

I have run out of ink. To be continued. If you are desperate to know more contact me now
